What is Sake?
Sake is a very popular Japanese alcoholic beverage that is made from fermented rice. Its ingredients are relatively simple; it includes rice, water, yeast, and koji. The rice used in sake isn’t just any type of rice; it’s actually made from a rice called sakamai. Koji, on the other hand, is a type of mold used to convert the starches in rice into sugar.
What Does Sake Taste Like?
When it comes to the taste of sake, it is best described as a less acidic wine with a great tasting fruity aroma. Every type of aroma within sake is distinct; there are several brewing and aging methods that contribute to different tastes and flavors. Sake offers an excellent balance of sugar, acid, and umami.
What is the Texture of Sake?
Most types of sake have a smooth texture that is thicker than water. Depending on the style of sake, the textures vary by:
Fizzy: Some include carbon dioxide, which provides a fizzy flavor, especially during summer releases.
Standard: This type is smooth and thicker than water. It does not include carbon dioxide and removes particles during the filtration process.
Creamy: It is not uncommon for sake to have a creamy texture that is thicker than standard sake. This type of texture often arrives with a sweet and rich profile.
